Love what you do. Do what you love.
A feeling of deep pride came over me as I listened to best-selling author, researcher and entrepreneur Marcus Buckingham’s presentation “Love + Work”. Mr. Buckingham was promoting his new book: Love and Work: How to Find What You Love, Love What You Do, and Do It for the Rest of Your Life. He proceeded to present how love can be designed into businesses for clients and team members. It was refreshing to learn someone else is not afraid to use the “L” word in business… love.
In 2021, the Forethought leadership team updated the organization’s core values. Four straightforward, concise concepts were approved to be the values our organization would live by. Among them, “love what you do, do what you love”. Prior to finalizing these concepts as our values going forward, the leadership team discussed the word “love” and how it could and would be received. The consensus was there should be a lot more love in the world. Things – life – just might go a little smoother, be happier. Our thought was that the reward for embracing “love” was worth the risk.
Three years later, it feels validating to have a researcher offer permission to design love in (https://www.makelovework.com/) to business. Because for 15 years I have loved what I do, loved my clients, loved my team and loved my partners. At Forethought, it is critical that every team member loves what they do and does what they love. We have but one life – please make sure you are loving as much as you can.
